Flight

Singular, I rose

Denying the walls,
Defying the sun,

My destiny glimmered above the clouds
The cheering forest fell far below
The rush in my veins matched
the tumultuous winds

I rose, like a skyward comet

My Father’s hands bearing me up
Staring Apollo in the eye,

A monument of Man.

The aftermath, the melted ruin
And the other red smear that is not me
Don’t look there,
For Icarus is flown

It was only his body that the sky sent back.
