1984

I had a perception of human mind about grasping an incident, of any accord, may it be. Higher the dimension, higher the impact. e.g. if you read about someone scooping one’s eye out in a book, the impact is lesser than if it was shown in your TV screen. In the same way the impact remains highest while seeing in real life just prior to watching it in a play. The horror of reality struck us with the increase in dimension and we perceive the information more clearly.

But my way of thinking was wrong. Until this book ‘1984’ came along, I had no idea such a low dimensional medium can have this amount of impact on myself. Generally, love is always in the air; the more despotic the society, stronger the love; may it be for the country, as a collective action for people or towards one significant individual.

I couldn’t wrap my head around the concept of ‘love’ in this world. It was superficial at max and more of an act of rebellion; a glitch in the matrix would be proper to say. But even that shocked me; I couldn’t think of any physical desire and affection of any kind in the reign of INGSOC.

Not only the concept of love, but the concept of reality was so hard to grasp. The blending of today’s world and the 1984 fictional world was done in such a way that to find clear distinction between these worlds was not an easy task.

Perpetual peace is same as perpetual war, this concept struck me hard because of the vivid reality in today’s world and mind boggling cut throat confession of power is pure power; not luxury, not pretentious goodwill for the whole of mankind. A revolution is made to create a new hierarchy, another form of totalitarian regime. The blue pills were so hard to swallow and the doublethink, crimestop, anti sex league, blackwhite; all the words were not mere words. They were lifestyles; to think but to not think, to see but to unsee, to hear but to not hear, to be conscious but to be unconscious.
I won’t spoil this book further for all of you who haven’t read it but I will tell one thing read it with utmost care.
And lastly.. This is the main spoiler, if you want to visualize this article in such a way; don’t hold your breath for triumph over BIG BROTHER.

WAR IS PEACE
SLAVERY IS FREEDOM
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

  1. Was published in 1949, as a novel that spoke of the present while pretending to tell a story of the future. Now it is 2021, and we see it as a novel of the past that tells the story we are living in now.
