Sniffing through the undergrowth
Sniffing through the bushes wild
‘Neath the drooping banyan tree
Lying lost I found a child
Mewling it lay ‘neath the shade
Of the darkling banyan tree
I touched it softly with my nose
And with big eyes it looked at me
Through trees scuttling squirrels ran
Warblers talked in hidden bowers
Sun was playing in the leaves
Jungle bees were at the flowers
And under the old banyan tree
The forest had me by surprise
For there lay all by its lonesome
The small brown child with wide black eyes.
